I had a dream

Okay, this is going to make me sound crazy.

A few weeks ago, during a dream, I got a clear instruction.

"Adapt the book"

The book the voice referred to: The Game of Life and How to Play It.

They told me to create a new version called: The Game of Business and How to Play It.

Interesting.

Last year I started an experiment with my Forbes column, affectionately titled Sceptical to Spiritual. I wrote to a fictional reader named Jeremy. He is smart, logical, and deeply sceptical. My job was to introduce spiritual ideas in a way he would accept.

I didn't mention manifesting. No way. Jeremy thought that was nonsense. But visualisation he quite liked. And he loved the idea of intentionality.

Small language experiments. Baby steps. Twenty or so articles that led him down a new path of discovery.

Then the emails started arriving. My intelligent, logical, principled Forbes readers were finally open to the unknown.

And someone had a plan for my next step.

In The Game of Life and How to Play It, Florence Scovel Shinn called life a game, with rules you could learn and play well. She wrote it in the language of 1925, full of scripture and old-fashioned phrasing.

Underneath is a simple and surprisingly practical idea:

The way you speak about your work, and what you expect from it, tends to show up in what you get.

I obeyed the voice.

My version keeps the idea and changes the delivery. No scripture. No 1925 phrasing. Updated stories. The same principles. Applied to situations we all recognise.
